MyCareNet mandatory for physiotherapists from 1 January 2027
From 1 January 2027, a Belgian physiotherapist must use four MyCareNet electronic services to bill and to exchange with the health insurance funds. What they do, who is exempt and what you need in place, according to RIZIV and the National Intermutualist College (NIC).
Updated November 1, 2026
The four mandatory services
- Member Data: check the patient's insurance status (fund, status, preferential or not) and whether third-party payment applies.
- eAgreement: send notifications and requests for the advisory physician's agreement to the fund electronically, and receive the decisions the same way. RIZIV notes that you must use this service to attest electronically.
- eAttest: send the care certificate to the fund when the patient pays for the session; the fund reimburses the patient directly. See our eAttest guide.
- eFact: bill the fund under third-party payment. According to RIZIV, the fund pays you within two weeks of receiving the data.
Who may still use paper
RIZIV allows few exceptions, and no individual derogation beyond these:
- a full exemption if you were 67 or older on 1 January 2027;
- an occasional exemption when you bill outside your practice and electronic billing is technically impossible there;
- force majeure that makes electronic sending impossible.
The obligation does not apply to physiotherapists working in a hospital who bill through the hospital's central billing system. RIZIV advises keeping paper certificates for the exceptions: they can still be ordered through Medattest.
What you need in place
You use these services from your software, provided it was developed for MyCareNet and approved by the NIC, which publishes the list of recognised software. Member Data is also available on the MyCareNet web portal.
Your software also needs your personal eHealth certificate, which identifies it to the eHealth services. You request it with your eID and it is valid for 36 months. How it works: the physiotherapist's eHealth certificate.
Not all software will be ready in time
To reach production, software must be assessed by the NIC on all four services at once. At its information session for physiotherapists on 30 October 2026, the NIC announced that it will not be able to accredit every software provider before 1 January 2027, given the number of registrations received since the summer of 2026.
So ask your provider where they stand, and keep paper certificates at hand during the transition.
Where Praxio stands
All four services are built in Praxio and our access requests are filed with eHealth and MyCareNet. The flows run against the test environment; in the app, until accreditation, they go through a simulation that is labelled as such. Our production start follows the NIC's accreditation: the details are in our eHealth roadmap.
