The physiotherapist's eHealth certificate getting and renewing it
For your software to use MyCareNet (insurability, eAttest, eFact, eAgreement) on your behalf, it needs your eHealth certificate. This guide follows what the eHealth platform says in its documentation of 9 October 2026.
Updated November 1, 2026
What it is for
The eHealth certificate identifies and authenticates your software to the eHealth platform's services, while your eID card identifies you as a person. It is also used to encrypt messages and receive encrypted ones, for example in the eHealthBox.
Without it, software cannot call MyCareNet, and those services become mandatory for physiotherapists on 1 January 2027: see MyCareNet in 2027.
Requesting it
You need:
- a valid eID card and a card reader;
- a healthcare provider profile registered in a validated authentic source;
- the eHealth Certificate Manager application, downloaded from the eHealth platform's website.
If your computer has a Java version newer than Java 8, eHealth offers the application as a ZIP file: extract it to a folder and start the .cmd file (Windows) or the .sh file (macOS, Linux).
In the application, request a certificate; your eID card identifies you. The certificate is personal, in your name, and protected by a password you choose: write it down, your software will ask for it.
Validity and renewal
- An eHealth certificate is valid for 36 months.
- It can be renewed from 90 days before the end of that period, in the Certificate Manager.
- The same tool revokes a certificate, for example if the computer holding it is lost, and changes the password of the encryption keys.
An expired certificate cuts your software off from MyCareNet: note its expiry date.
If something goes wrong
The eHealth contact centre answers on +32 2 788 51 55, Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 18:00, and through the contact form on the eHealth website.
In Praxio
You upload your certificate (the .p12 file) to Praxio once. It is stored encrypted, its password never is, and Praxio warns you 30 days before it expires.
Software built for all of this
Praxio brings together the agenda, patient records, billing on the RIZIV nomenclature and the MyCareNet exchanges. Request access, or a demo practice with sample data.
